How do you successfully industrialise 3D printing ?

What are the success factors for an industrialisation project? We propose to present two successful projects. We will then be able to share the common factors and prerequisites for a successful project, as well as the obstacles that were overcome.

Giving meaning to AF: 30 years of successful experience

At MATERIALISE, we believe that additive manufacturing can have a significant impact on making the world a better, healthier place for everyone. Since the beginning in 1990, we have worked on this mission and we continue to do so. Economic value is generated by the new products, therapies and business approaches that can be made possible by additive manufacturing when properly applied to meaningful applications. In this presentation, we discuss several applications and the underlying factors that make additive manufacturing the best choice. We will discover how the choice is also highly dependent on the ecosystem and what obstacles need to be overcome.

Meltio M600: a new DED tool for the supply chain

MELTIO manufactures metal additive manufacturing machines using the wire laser process. Their machines come either as mobile heads that can be integrated into a robot or machining centre, or as 3-axis machines. Meltio has just announced the new M 600 machine, which complements the M 450. The M 600 is revolutionising the supply chain for companies using machining centres, as it can produce preformed blanks in different materials in very short lead times, and can therefore sometimes replace the foundry.

Analysis of material data at Nikon SLM

With selective laser melting (SLM) technology, material parameters are crucial to the successful production of quality, productively built components. Testing machines to the limit and obtaining statistically valid data on material performance is essential to guarantee the reliability, repeatability and, more generally, the industrial performance of the SLM process.

Innovation in X-ray Tomography for Additive Manufacturing

X-ray tomography is the only non-destructive technology capable of providing such a rich level of data on complex parts manufactured by additive manufacturing. Most of the time, parts have to be separated from their substrate before they can be scanned, an operation that causes stress and deformation. Data acquisition is therefore based on a geometry that is far removed from the original shape. Nikon has come up with a solution to this problem: Tilted CT.
